What is Stampli?
Stampli is an AP automation platform founded in 2014 in Mountain View, California. It was built around the invoice itself: every invoice gets its own workspace where AP staff and approvers comment, ask questions and approve in context.
Its AI assistant, Billy, learns how your team codes and routes invoices. Stampli works on top of your existing ERP without changing its setup, and it has added vendor payments, vendor management and cards over time.
Strengths
- In-context collaboration on every invoice
- Highest G2 scores for ease of use, setup and support
- Works with 70+ ERPs without changing your setup
Limitations
- No public pricing
- Global payments and tax reporting are not its main focus
- No close automation listed
What is Tipalti?
Tipalti is a finance automation platform founded in 2010 in Foster City, California. It started as a global payments engine and expanded into AP automation, procurement, expense management and corporate cards.
Its strength is paying suppliers at scale. Tipalti supports 50+ payment methods across 200+ countries and territories in 120 currencies, with supplier self-onboarding, tax form collection and payment fraud screening built in.
Strengths
- Global payments reach
- Built-in tax compliance with 1099 and 1042-S reporting
- Broad suite: procurement, cards and expenses
Limitations
- Lower G2 scores for ease of setup and support
- Total cost depends on modules and payment volume
- No close automation listed
Stampli vs Tipalti Head-to-Head: 7 Categories
We scored both tools on the seven areas finance teams ask about most.
1. Invoice capture and GL coding
Both platforms read invoices automatically and suggest GL coding with machine learning. Tipalti captures header and line-level data and offers managed services to review captured data. Stampli’s AI, Billy, learns your team’s coding and approval patterns and is frequently praised in reviews. For most teams the difference here is small.
2. Approval workflows and collaboration
This is Stampli’s home turf. Every invoice has its own conversation thread, so approvers can ask and answer questions without leaving the invoice, and nothing gets lost in email. Tipalti supports rules-based, multi-level approvals and email approvals, but it does not center the process on collaboration the way Stampli does.
3. Global payments and FX
Tipalti leads in this category. It says it supports 50+ payment methods across 200+ countries and territories in 120 currencies, with supplier self-onboarding and payment validation built in. Stampli also pays domestic and international vendors, including in local currency, but global payments are not its main focus.
4. Tax and compliance
Tipalti collects and validates W-9 and W-8 forms and produces 1099 and 1042-S reports, which saves US companies real work at year-end. Stampli also collects tax forms from vendors; ask Stampli how much of the validation and reporting it automates for your setup.
5. ERP integrations
Both connect to the ERPs mid-market teams use most, including NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP and QuickBooks. Stampli advertises 70+ ERP integrations and a reputation for leaving your ERP setup untouched. Tipalti’s list also includes Xero, Acumatica and Workday. Check your specific ERP edition with both vendors.
6. Ease of use and implementation
On G2, Stampli outscores Tipalti on ease of use (9.3 vs 8.8), ease of setup (9.2 vs 8.1) and quality of support (9.4 vs 8.6). Tipalti says its average go-live is about four weeks. Teams with complex payment setups should plan for longer.
7. Pricing transparency
Tipalti publishes an entry price: its AP Starter plan starts at $99 per month, with higher tiers quoted. Stampli does not publish pricing and quotes based on users and invoice volume. For both, total cost depends on modules, volume and payment fees, so ask for a quote based on your real numbers.

Where DOKKA Fits
Stampli and Tipalti each solve one part of the problem. Neither lists reconciliation or month-end close automation, so many finance teams still finish the job in spreadsheets. DOKKA is an AI accounting automation platform for mid-market teams that covers AP and, as an optional add-on, the close.
Agentic invoice processing
Context-aware AI reads, extracts and codes line items from any invoice in any language, then prepares the entry for one-click posting to your ERP.
Native ERP integrations
Two-way sync with NetSuite, SAP Business One, Microsoft Dynamics, Acumatica, QuickBooks, Xero and more. Go live in 2 to 4 weeks.
Close automation when you need it
The same clean AP data feeds automated reconciliations, flux analysis and journal entries, so the books close faster.
DOKKA is not the right fit if global cross-border payments or tax form automation are your main need. Tipalti leads there.
